My Sister

My new baby sister is here...

Kassidy Camille was born Sunday, February 22, 2009 at 8:22 am in front of me at home! She is 8lbs 5 oz and 19.5 inches long (I was 8lbs 12 oz and 19.5 inches long).
Kassidy came very fast on Sunday. One minute Mommy was talking to me and the next she was groaning in pain (I gave her lots of kisses to help) and she couldn't walk or talk. Daddy made Mommy lay on the floor and he caught sissy. I sat on the couch and didn't say anything. Oma went outside to wait for the men to come. The men came and took Mommy and Sissy away. We visited them at the hospital later. Oma gave me all the chocolate milk I wanted for the whole day!
Mommy's Note (her version):
It was quite an exciting birth experience! Kassidy decided to come very fast - 1.5 hours fast. We live 25 minutes from the hospital and my first couple of contractions were 20-15 minutes apart - then they were very close and very strong. I think I had 15-20 contractions total and 2 contractions to deliver! By the time we realized how fast she was coming we were stuck - we couldn't make it to the hospital and I couldn't make it to the car. She was born in our living room hall and delivered by my husband. Luckily everything went perfectly (thanks to God) and she is very healthy. The paramedics arrived just as she was delivered. :)

There were a few other ways that God was involved in this delivery. My husband is in the medical field (a Surgical First Assistant) and worked about 10 years years ago in Labor and Delivery so he has seen and participated in many deliveries, he also was an EMT and knew what to tell them was needed, AND was a medic in the military - so I was in the best hands possible to deliver at home! He knew exactly where I was and how quickly I was going to deliver and how to deliver. It was quite exciting and I am hoping Katie doesn't remember anything that happened. She sat on the couch the whole time quiet as a mouse - I am sure in shock.
We were the talk of the hospital the entire stay!! The Dr said this happens about once every 12 years. Having had pain meds and no pain meds - I recommend the Epidural. Although I was lucky because the birth was so fast the after care was very unpleasant!! I needed stitches and the clean up wasn't pleasant. Though my recovery has been much faster!! I think 22 hours of contractions vs 1.5 hours is responsible for that!!
We are at home now and I am feeling great! I think 1.5 hours is MUCH easier on the body than 22 hours of contractions, which is why I feel so good. By the way - the Dr has told me if we have another child I will be induced early because the next baby will come faster! That is scary - the only way we would have made it to the hospital would have been if we dropped everything and went to the hospital at the first contraction and probably would have delivered in the ER or Labor and Delivery triage - but still with no pain meds! Although on the other hand I think it's sad that such a fast birth would be stopped because most women would wish for a birth like this (with pain meds of course!!).

We were also very lucky because if she came 2 hours later she would have been delivered at church!! LOL! That would have been something because there are NO private rooms at church - most of them have windows without curtains!!
